Film biography of the legendary boxer Max Schmeling, embodied by the real boxer Henry Maske. The action begins in 1943 in Crete. The German soldier Max Schmeling is supposed to convict an English prisoner of war. On the journey, the two men get to know each other better until Schmeling begins to tell about his career: about his first world championship fight in 1930, about his love for actress Anny Ondra, about his most famous fight against Joe Lewis in 1936, and about the rematch he loses through knockout. And of course, from the anger that Schmeling gets involved with the Nazi leadership until he is finally drafted and sent to war. When the war is over, Schmeling, who has never learned anything other than boxing, searches in vain for work.
