Set in pre-Celtic Tiger Ireland, the film takes an eloquent cinematic look at the effect of emigration on the lives of the parents left behind in a small rural town. Mr and Mrs Conheeny search for ways to express the loss of their children to other rivers around the world. While the women fish for their sons from the local riverbank, their husbands try to hold the towns aging football team together. Fishing the Sloe-Black River was the first Irish short film to receive a mainstream Irish theatrical release, screened with PHENOMENON, distributed by Buena Vista International (Ireland).
