Director Hammar is a banana wholesaler. Director Backman trades in meat. Hammar has a driver who is a vegetarian with bananas as a favorite dish. Backman has a driver who can not imagine a meal without meat. The drivers are called Banana or Beef. The directors bet with each other. This applies to a walking competition Stockholm-Gothenburg between the drivers. Hammar is of course investing in Bananen and Backman in Biffen. Two journalists have been commissioned to cover the competition, Rolf Eriksson from Sporttidningen and Gun Backman who is the daughter of the steak director. He drives a scooter and she a car. The start is outside the Grand Hôtel in Stockholm. The steak and the banana stick along the Ship Bridge and past the Slussen. The steak and the banana pass Södertälje together. The banana first comes from Norrköping, as Biffen has fallen asleep, but even before Linköping, Biffen has taken the lead. Rolf and Gun, who have become increasingly interested in each other, have settled on a slope near the road to enjoy the view of Lake Vättern and each other. They are just about to kiss each other, when they see someone running away with her car. Gun gets a lift from a man in a sports car, Pontus. Rolf drives on on his scooter. The steak, the Banana, Rolf, Gun and Pontus radiate together at a serving. Rolf and Bananen agree to operate with Pontus. They talk to each other so that Pontus "happens" to hear that Biffen is bribed; for SEK 500 he will lose. Pontus tells Gun the sensational secret that he passes on, when she later meets her father, and he is of course upset. At a hotel, Gun receives a message from the police. Her car has recovered. In Borås, after the penultimate stage, Biffen finishes before the Banana, but at Götaplatsen in Gothenburg they cross the finish line side by side the next day. And only now are the suspicions that Biffen has been bribed dispelled. There are a lot of people at Götaplatsen, among them Ingemar Johansson and Edwin Ahlqvist who congratulate the two times. Rolf has found out that Gun is not engaged. Now a common future is open to them. They kiss each other. Gösta Kjellertz hands out a prize to Biffen och Bananen - a sailboat with a small engine in the back. The steak and the banana are in the boat that is standing on a wagon.
