Conny Persson is making a name for himself in the boxing ring. After a victory in JM, where he was taken out as a reserve, new matches, new victories and ever larger newspaper headlines quickly follow. Andy Ekström, one of professional boxing's leading businessmen, opens his eyes to the rising middleweight and tries to attract him with a contract. Conny knows Karin who has been married to Viking Svensson, a boxer who has served Andy but is now on his way down. Through Karin, Conny meets her cousin, Margit, and immediately begins to court her. Andy offers Conny to become the main matchboxer. He will receive SEK 1,000 for the first match, but then larger sums await. And no written contract is needed between pure-haired guys, says Andy. Conny wins his first match for Andy, but at the same time he is losing Margit. My children's father should have a real profession, she says. She does not dare to believe his speech about quitting on time. Conny opens a flower shop, and this clearly shown willingness to think about the future helps to break down Margit's defensive attitude. She affirms her love. Conny is too good to be ruined, she tells her parents. She loves him and will save him. Shortly after the wedding, Conny meets Viking in a match of ten rounds. The match gets tough, but Conny eventually beats Viking. While Conny continues to push himself upwards, things go downhill with Viking. He seeks help from Conny, who offers a job in the flower shop. Viking thanks by stealing the cash on payday, and Conny has to ask Andy for an advance. The following match, Conny loses. Then he wins the next. Margit pressures him to quit boxing, but he thinks he can not afford it yet. When he comes home after another victory, Margit is gone. Once again, Margit agrees to give it another try. Conny buys a café for the future livelihood, and he finances it by selling the flower! Trade and signing a slave contract with Andy - five matches for SEK 15,000. Then he should quit. And both the home and the business, he writes on Margit, which her father demands. After a match in London, Conny comes home and finds Viking in the apartment with Margit. The night before, she saved Viking from a pub brawl. But Conny sees the situation through the eyes of the deceiver and leaves home after a short quarrel. Now Conny is not thinking about boxing. He's super. But Andy drives him to go to the contracted matches, and in the last of these, Conny is half killed. For once, Margit is in the audience. She's crying. During the summer, Conny engages in market boxing. At one point, Viking is among the audience, and willingly goes up and boxes against Conny for offered SEK 300 to the winner. However, Conny gets a starburst, and Viking is unconscious for a long time. Conny realizes that he has been hurt by his sport. He needs treatment from a neurologist, even though he is only 25 years old. He gets Andy to arrange a new match, one last. The gag to the winner should be enough to pay for the treatment. Conny comes home to Margit who is happy to see him. But she is frightened to see him tremble so that he can barely hold the coffee cup and asks him to refrain from the match. When she realizes that he has made his decision, she says that she will follow the match, if he comes home afterwards. The match is underway. Conny receives a lot of beatings from the beginning. Conny has to appeal to Andy to continue. Against all odds, Conny then knocks out his opponent in the third round. He remains lying down long after he has been calculated. A doctor is called.
